Farooq, Omar condole demise of Chautala, Khawaja

Srinagar, Dec 20: National Conference president Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday expressed grief at the passing of former Haryana chief minister Om Prakash Chautala, recalling his immense contributions to public service and pivotal role in Indian politics.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah also expressed his grief at Chautala’s death, the National Conference said in a post on X.
“Recalling his immense contributions to public service and his pivotal role in Indian politics, they conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, the Indian National Lok Dal, and his admirers. They prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to the family during this difficult time,” the party said.
Chautala, who was former deputy prime minister Devi Lal’s son, suffered a cardiac arrest at his Gurugram home and was immediately rushed to a hospital where he died, an Indian National Lok Dal spokesperson told PTI.
Meanwhile, Dr Farooq Abdullah and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed condolences on the demise of the maternal uncle of MLA Uri Dr Sajjad Shafi, Ghulam Rasool Khawaja, who passed away early Friday morning. He was laid to rest in his hometown Garkote village in Uri.
In their condolence message, the duo prayed for peace to the departed soul in the highest echelons of Jannat and fortitude to the bereaved Khawaja and Uri households.
Among others, General Secretary Ali Muhammad Sagar, Addl General Secretary Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamal, Advisor to CM Nasir Aslam Wani, Cabinet Minister Javed Dar, Treasurer Shammi Oberoi, Party MPs Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Mian Altaf Ahmad, Chief Spokesperson Tanvir Sadiq, Provincial President Showkat Mir, Political Advisor to President Mushtaq Guroo, Political Advisor to VP Mudassar Shahmiri, State Spokesperson Imran Nabi Dar; Media and Social Media functionaries; Women’s wing and Minority wing; North Zone functionaries also expressed grief with the bereaved family and prayed for peace to the departed.
