Jammu, May 06: On the directions of the Border Security Force (BSF), the farmers along the borders of Jammu region, especially those close to the International Border (IB), have harvested their crops amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan.

“The directions were given to the farmers of Jammu region by the BSF to harvest their crop a couple of days after the Pahalgam attack,” former minister and BJP MLA Samba, Devender Manyal, informed Rising Kashmir.

Similarly, former minister and ex-MLA from Suchetgarh, Sham Chowdary said that harvesting of the crop has been completed 100% in the areas along the IB of Jammu region.

The crop harvesting has been completed in RS Pura sector including Suchetgarh and Arnia, Gajansoo, Marh, Ramgarh, Hira Nagar Sector, Pindi, Samba Sector and all other forward areas close to the IB, sources said.

There is also a great deal of apprehension among the border residents regarding war as the mock drill in Jammu region will be conducted tomorrow after 54 years. The mock drills were conducted in the Jammu region during the 1971 Indo-Pak war.

“Now, we are again faced with the similar situation as the mock drill will be conducted after 54 years,” Tarsem Manhas, former Panch of Village Kerail Manhasan, said. This village is close to the border in Arnia sector of Jammu region.

“We used to see such exercises (mock drills) during the 1971 war and now it seems that such a war-like situation may again erupt,” a retired headmaster, Mahesh Sharma, said.

The mock drill in Jammu will be conducted tomorrow at Doda, Jammu, Kathua, Poonch, Rajouri, Udhampur, Samba, Akhnoor, Nowshera and Sunderbani.
