Jammu, Jan 18: Government has decided to appoint faculty members (gazetted level teaching posts) from outside Jammu and Kashmir to overcome shortage of faculty members in Government Medical Colleges (GMCs) and Dental Colleges.
As per the government order issued in this regard, Government Medical Colleges and Dental Colleges in J&K can now fill gazetted level teaching/faculty posts with candidates from outside J&K, provided such posts must have been advertised at least once and not filled up.
“In exercise of powers conferred by clause (II) of section (3) of J&K Civil Services Decentralization and Recruitment Act, 2010 (Act number XVI of 2010), the LG of J&K hereby excludes from the operation of the Act such categories by the Health and Medical Education Department from time to time for the purpose of appointment on academic arrangement basis under the provisions of J&K Medical and Dental Education (Appointment on Academic Arrangement basis) Rules, 2020 in all the GMCs of J&K subject to the condition that such posts have been advertised at least once and remained unfilled”, the order reads.
However, the exemption shall be valid till 31/03/2023, the order mentions. “There is shortage of around 35% to 40% faculty members in the two main hospitals of Jammu region i.e GMC Jammu and Super Specialty Hospital Jammu, since the last around 10 years,” senior faculty members in these two hospitals, Dr Furqan Nizami and Dr Sanjeev Gupta informed Rising Kashmir.
The situation is even worse in other 5 GMCs of J&K i.e Rajouri GMC, Kathua GMC, Doda GMC, Baramulla GMC and Anantnag GMC, sources said. The shortage of faculty members in these 5 hospitals is around 50%, they said.
In Jammu’s Super Specialty Hospital, around 50% posts of faculty members have been lying vacant since the past many years, the senior faculty members informed.
In Neurology Department of Super Specialty Hospital of Jammu, 3 out of 4 faculty posts have been lying vacant since long, while in Neuro Surgery Department, 3 out of 5 posts of faculty members are vacant.
Surprisingly, all the 4 faculty posts have been lying vacant since the past few years in the Nephrology Department of Super Specialty Hospital of Jammu, they further informed. Since 2012, no faculty member has been appointed in most of the departments of Super Specialty Hospital and GMC Jammu.
