Baramulla, Oct 15: The Division of Agriculture, Extension & Communication at the Faculty of Agriculture, Wadura, Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences & Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) organised a one-day awareness programme here to foster innovation and entrepreneurship in the agricultural and allied sectors.
The event, titled “Strengthening Entrepreneurship & Management of Startups in Agriculture and Allied Sectors,” took place at the Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Singhpora Kalan, Baramulla.
Under the umbrella of the SKUAST-K Innovation, Incubation & Entrepreneurship (SKIIE) Centre, sponsored by the Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME), the program aimed to instill an entrepreneurial spirit and cultivate an incubation ecosystem in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir. The objective was to inspire and mobilise students and youth, encouraging them to develop innovative ideas, pursue skill training, and become employable, thereby enhancing their livelihood prospects.
The event was graced by distinguished guests, including Prof Haroon Rashid Naik, Director Planning and Monitoring SKUAST-Kashmir, who highlighted the importance of innovation, idea incubation, and the vast business potential in agriculture and horticulture-based startups. Prof Raihana H Kanth, Dean Faculty of Agriculture, emphasized that agricultural entrepreneurship is a vital strategy to create employment opportunities, improve livelihoods, and enhance the economic independence of unemployed youth. She underscored the economic benefits and business opportunities that agriculture-focused startups can offer, such as increased food production, innovative products, and expanded export possibilities.
The attendees also received valuable insights from officials representing the Department of Horticulture and the banking sector, who shared information about various schemes and policies available to support startups in agriculture and allied sectors.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Dr Syed Shafat Kubrevi, who expressed gratitude to all participants and contributors. This initiative stands as a significant step toward nurturing a culture of entrepreneurship and empowering the youth of Jammu & Kashmir.
