New Delhi, Dec 20: Government of India has opened the doors of healthcare benefits to the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir through the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (PMJAY)-SEHAT scheme.
This was stated by the Minister of State for Home, Nityanand Rai in a written reply to Rajya Sabha. He said all residents of Jammu and Kashmir have a health coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family, entirely free of charge.
Speaking on the significance of the scheme, Minister Nityanand Rai said this initiative is a crucial step towards ensuring that every family in Jammu and Kashmir has access to quality healthcare without the burden of financial constraints. “The Ayushman Bharat PMJAY-SEHAT scheme reflects the government’s dedication to inclusive and accessible healthcare for all.”
The Ayushman Bharat PMJAY-SEHAT scheme is designed to extend health insurance coverage to every individual in Jammu and Kashmir. With this expansion, the scheme aims to provide free insurance cover and vital financial support to an estimated 15 lakh additional families across the region.
The move underscores the government’s commitment to addressing healthcare disparities and promoting the overall well-being of the residents.
The scheme’s coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family encompasses a wide range of medical expenses, including hospitalization costs, surgeries, and other critical healthcare needs.
The government anticipates that this extension will not only enhance healthcare accessibility but also alleviate the economic burden on families facing health crises.
