MP Urges Equal, Compassionate Care for Patients

Srinagar, May 19: Member of Parliament from Baramulla, Engineer Rashid on Tuesday appealed to doctors across Jammu and Kashmir to treat every patient equally and with compassion, recalling the care his father received at hospitals during his illness.

Engineer Rashid made these remarks while addressing people during the funeral of his father, Haji Khazir Muhammad Sheikh, who passed away at a Delhi hospital on Monday early morning at the age of 85 after a prolonged illness.

He said doctors at SMHS Hospital and other medical institutions had extended proper treatment and attention to his father, and urged the medical fraternity to continue serving patients without discrimination.

Thousands of people from different areas participated in the funeral prayers in Mawar area of Langate. The funeral prayers were led by his son and MLA Langate, Sheikh Khursheed.

A large number of political leaders, party workers, relatives and local residents attended the funeral to express solidarity with the bereaved family. Emotional scenes were witnessed as people gathered in huge numbers to pay their last respects to the deceased.

Authorities had also put in place elaborate security arrangements in view of the massive gathering anticipated during the funeral procession. Police and civil administration officials remained deployed in the area to ensure smooth movement and maintain law and order.
