Srinagar, Nov 22: In a landmark achievement, the Department of ENT at JLNM Hospital successfully performed its first surgery on a patient with angiofibroma, marking a significant milestone for healthcare in peripheral hospitals. The surgery involved the complete endoscopic removal of a Fisch 3A tumor, a rare and challenging procedure typically performed at tertiary care centers.
The operating team was led by Dr. Omar Shafi, Dr. Mudasir Ul Islam, and Dr. Neelam, with critical support from the Anesthesia Department headed by Dr. Aarifa and Dr. Manzoor, assisted by Dr. Akif, Dr. Alfer, and theater staff members including Dr. Samiullah, Bashir Ahmed, and Muneer Ahmad.
The team expressed gratitude to the Director of Health Services Kashmir, Dr. Jahangir Bakshi, Medical Superintendent Dr. Tariq Jan, and the hospital administration for their unwavering support and encouragement.
Angiofibroma, a rare nasal tumor characterized by severe recurrent bleeding and nasal obstruction, is known for its complexity and risk of excessive blood loss. Successfully conducting this surgery in a peripheral health setting like JLNM Hospital has been widely appreciated as a remarkable achievement.
The patient is reported to be in stable condition post-surgery.
