Srinagar, Feb 26: People’s Democratic Front (PDF) president and former minister, Hakeem Muhammad Yaseen has urged the administration to make adequate arrangements for the upcoming holy month of Ramadan.
In a statement issued here, Hakeem demanded round-the-clock water and electricity supply to facilitate smooth observance of the sacred month. He called for ensuring the availability of essential commodities and civic amenities across all cities and towns in Jammu and Kashmir, saying that Ramadan holds immense spiritual significance for the Muslim community worldwide.
“The government must ensure an uninterrupted supply of power, drinking water and essential commodities throughout Ramadan. Strict action should also be taken against consumers found misusing scarce resources,” Yaseen said.
The former minister stressed the importance of proper street lighting, particularly in lanes around mosques and shrines, to ensure devotees can perform Sehri, Taraweeh and Tahajjud prayers without difficulty.
He urged the administration to conduct regular market inspections to prevent hoarding, black marketing and price manipulation of essential commodities. “Strict action should be taken against traders engaging in unscrupulous practices that exploit people during this holy month,” he added.
The PDF chief prayed that Ramadan brings peace and prosperity to Jammu and Kashmir. He urged people to observe fasts in their true spirit and seek divine blessings during night prayers.
He also emphasised the importance of charity and assistance for the underprivileged, including orphans, widows, destitute and differently-abled individuals. “The holy month of Ramadan is a time of compassion and generosity. We must extend moral and financial support to those in need,” he said.
