‘Ensure safe, sufficient water for future generations’

Ramban, June 12: Director (Law & Order), Internal Security-I Division, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, and Central Nodal Officer (CNO) for Jal Shakti Abhiyaan (JSA), Catch the Rain (CTR), Nishtha Tiwari, along with Scientist Central Groundwater, Chandreyee De, on Monday visited Banihal area and inspected Amrit Sarovars besides interacting with PRIs and locals.
Central Nodal Officer-JSA-CTR, Scientist CGW and members of Jal Shakti Abhiyan, on the second day of their four-day visit to the district, interacted with the PRI members and took stock of their issues and concerns. They inspected various Amrit Sarovars in sub-division Banihal constructed by the Rural Development Department.
The Jal Shakti Abhiyan is a flagship program of the Government of India focused on ensuring water security and conservation in the country. The program aims to raise awareness about the importance of water conservation, promote water harvesting, and improve infrastructure for water storage and distribution.
During the interaction, CNO asked the PRIs to plan GPDP, MGNREGA and other development schemes for the creation of infrastructure required for water conservation and rainwater harvesting in the district. She asked them to understand the need and importance of water conservation and its judicious use, protection of water sources and rainwater harvesting to ensure safe and sufficient water availability for future generations.
She was accompanied by SDM Banihal, Zaheer Abass, and members of Jal Shakti Abhiyan besides DFO, ACD, CHO, Executive Engineer, JSD and other concerned engineers and officials. Among others, Vice Chairperson DDC, Rabia Hamid, BDC Chairman, DDC member, officers from Jal Shakti Department other officers and officials and PRI members were present on the occasion.
