Ensure priority passage to fruit laden trucks: Govt officers

Srinagar, Sept 16: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday directed the officials to ensure priority passage is given to fruit laden trucks, officials said.
According to the officials, the directions were issued by Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Agriculture Production Department (APD), Atal Dulloo, at a meeting held here to discuss the issues/difficulties pertaining to the movement of trucks carrying fruits and vegetables on national highway from valley.
Chairing the meeting, Atal Dulloo directed the concerned authorities “to take immediate measures so that fruit laden trucks are provided a smooth passage.”
He directed Police and Traffic authorities to provide round the clock and hassle-free safe passage to the fruit laden trucks on the interior roads and highway on priority basis and avoid unwarranted stoppages enroute.
The officials were further directed to monitor the fruit transportation on a daily basis besides they will hold review meetings with fruit growers and other concerned officers and take further course of necessary action.
Atal Dullo said that fruits and vegetables being perishable commodities, need hassle free passage of movement from Kashmir valley and all measures shall be taken to ensure early, prompt and remunerative marketing.
The meeting was attended by Secretary Tribal Affairs, Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Secretary in Agriculture Production Department Mohammad Akbar Wani, senior officers from Horticulture, Agriculture, Traffic, Police Departments and fruit growers.
