Bandipora, Mar 22: The construction of a public park in Putushay, Bandipora, has come to a standstill after facing opposition from persons who previously occupied the land illegally.
As per details available with Rising Kashmir, the Jammu & Kashmir government had reclaimed 19 kanals and 19 marlas of state land in Qazipora Putushay last year. While a portion of this land was designated for a vegetable market, the rest was earmarked for a public park.
“Despite Rs 42 lakh being sanctioned for the project, work has not begun due to resistance from people who had earlier encroached on the land,” locals said. They accused these persons of stalling a development meant for the community’s benefit.
“We have been eagerly waiting for the park’s construction. This land belongs to the public, and those opposing the project are only doing so because they lost their illegal control over it,” locals added.
They urged the district administration and the local MLA to intervene and ensure the project resumes without further delay. They demanded strict action against those obstructing the work, emphasizing that such resistance should not hinder public welfare projects.
