Baramulla, Feb 11: The Irrigation and Flood Control Division in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district has issued a notice to residents to remove any illegal encroachments on Jhelum river banks and other water bodies within seven days, or face strict legal action.
The official notice states that those who have encroached the state land in the shape of rivers, nallahs, water canals or the Irrigation and Flood Control (I&FC) land must remove the encroachments within a period of seven days.
All those persons who have unlawfully occupied the state land around rivers, nallah, flood control areas, coils and irrigation canals are hereby informed that they shall themselves remove all illegal encroachment within seven days, the official notice reads.
An official of the Irrigation and Flood Control Division Baramulla said that people are warned to remove any such construction that has been erected on the encroached state land around water bodies within a week’s time. “Otherwise, the department will be authorized to remove all illegal encroachments by itself and the expenses incurred for removing the illegal encroachments will be collected from the encroachers as revenue,” he said.
According to officials, separate eviction notices have been distributed to residents throughout the district. The notices warned that strict action will be taken against those who fail to remove the illegal encroachments in accordance with the law.
The officials said the encroached land around water bodies has been identified in the entire district and the process is still going on.
