Jammu, Aug 07: Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) Working President Raman Bhalla on Wednesday pacified the protesters who had blocked the Bishnah-Kunjwani road for a brief time following the electricity breakdown in the area.
According to a JKPCC statement, Bandhu Rakh Receiving Station was submerged in rainwater due to heavy rainfall, due to which the electricity supply in the area was affected. The water level rose to three to four feet, following which the electricity workers switched off the power and waited for the water to subside. Locals protested against the situation, blocking the Bishnah-Kunjwani road for a brief time.
Bhalla arrived at the scene and pacified the protesters after receiving a call from the DC. He assured that the situation would be resolved and the road would be cleared, the statement said.
Speaking on the occasion, the Congress leader highlighted the importance of upgrading the Bandhu Rakh Receiving Station to 12.6 KVA. “Upgrade was necessary due to frequent power breakdowns faced by residents during the summer season,” he said.
He alleged the BJP government’s negligence during the rainy season led to water entering the receiving station and affecting power supply. “Public cooperation is essential for development and the government’s failure to provide basic amenities has led to people’s hardships,” he said.
“Government is fully aware of people’s hardships but even then did not make all-out efforts to mitigate the same on a priority basis,” he said. He stressed upon the officers to maintain accountability and transparency in utilisation of funds available under various Centrally and State-sponsored schemes for better infrastructural development of J&K.
During his visit to other rain-affected areas, Bhalla slammed JMC and UEED for not taking adequate measures to prepare for monsoon season. He criticised the government’s “failure” to learn from previous experiences and take necessary steps to prevent flooding and damage to properties.
He assured that the Congress Party will work tirelessly to highlight people’s problems and provide assistance to those affected.
