Baramulla, May 01: Eight gamblers were apprehended in two separate incidents in Gantamulla and Iqbal Colony Pattan areas of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district. A stake money of rupees 37,610/- was seized during the operation.
According to a police official, the police received a specific tip-off regarding the presence of gamblers at Barrage Gantamulla and Iqbal Colony Pattan, respectively.
A police party led by Inspector. Waseem Jahangir, SHO Police Station Sheeri, and Inspector Sarjan Ahmad, SHO Police Station Pattan, rushed to the spots, and arrested the gamblers after they attempted to flee the scene.
The arrested gamblers were identified as Fayaz Ahmad Tantray, Farooq Ahmad Najar, Abdul Majeed Teli, Shabir Ahmad, Ghulam Nabi, Waseem Ahmad Khanday, Altaf Ahmad Shah, and Ab Hamid Miyan, all hailing from different parts of Baramulla and Pattan.
The police seized playing cards and a stake money of Rs 34,650/- from the gamblers in Gantamulla, and Rs 4,960/- from those in Iqbal Colony Pattan.
The authorities have registered cases under sections of 13 Gambling Act in Police Station Sheeri and Pattan and have begun an investigation into the matter.
