Srinagar, Mar 20: Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Jammu and Kashmir, PK Pole, emphasized the need for proactive measures to enhance voter turnout and ensure a safe electoral process in the region. He stated:
“After a thorough evaluation, most parts of the Valley have been identified as vulnerable areas. We have directed authorities to take Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) to boost voter turnout in the region. We have directed local police to implement these CBMs in vulnerable areas.”
“Our efforts are aimed at creating a safe atmosphere for voting in the Kashmir Valley and other risky regions. GPS-based vehicle tracking will be used in election duty vehicles to enhance security.”
“The Election Commission conducted a detailed survey called KAP (Know, Aptitude, Practices) to understand why voter turnout is low. The survey revealed significant differences between Jammu and Kashmir, with higher voter turnout in Jammu compared to Kashmir. We’re focusing on vulnerable areas and important polling stations to increase voter turnout while maintaining security.”
“The Election Commission is committed to ensuring more people participate in voting and that the process is fair and safe across Jammu and Kashmir. By using targeted plans and new ideas, we’re overcoming challenges and encouraging everyone to take part in democracy.”
“To address security concerns, we have implemented measures such as conducting searches, increasing security checkpoints, holding regular meetings among officers, and collaborating closely with security agencies in vulnerable areas.”
“People should exercise their right to vote and actively participate in the largest democracy. Training sessions, from District Commissioners (DCs) to administrative staff, have concluded. Master-level trainers have been deployed to train the staff, and training for polling personnel is scheduled to commence within the next two to three days.”
“In remote and snow-covered areas, helicopters are being utilized to transport staff and election materials. Civil helicopters are being hired specifically to address emergency situations.”
“Many polling stations are located in government schools and colleges. The administration will ensure all necessary arrangements at polling booths, including water, electricity, separate washrooms, and other facilities.”
