Anantnag, Mar 02: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Pandurang K Pole (P K Pole), said on Saturday that the Election Commission of India (ECI) will notify schedule for the upcoming LokSabha elections in about 15-20 days.
He said this while conducting a review meeting in Anantnag with the three south Kashmir district teams regarding election preparations.
Pole said that he had come to Anantnag to review the Anantnag parliamentary constituency, which includes Anantnag, Kulgam, and Shopian in Kashmir. The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioners (DCs), Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs), and Assistant Returning Officers (AERo).
“Elections are undoubtedly a challenging task, but the officers posted here are excellent and experienced. They know their work, and our efforts will focus on ensuring peaceful, free, fair, and transparent elections. Additionally, we aim for a better voter turnout compared to previous elections,” he said.
Pole said that while the security environment has changed in recent years, the challenges remain the same. Therefore, they have flagged the requirement for forces, both local and external, as per ECI norms, for tasks such as polling booth security and area domination.
“We are committed to conducting free, fair, transparent, peaceful, and incident-free elections. The right to vote is a fundamental constitutional right for citizens, and everyone should exercise this right. The administration will ensure all necessary arrangements at polling booths, including water, electricity, separate washrooms, and other facilities,” Pole added.
