Security, Law & Order under scrutiny; Commission to meet CS, DGP today
Media briefing on J&K election readiness after review meetings

Srinagar, Aug 08: A delegation from the Election Commission of India (ECI), led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, arrived in Srinagar on Thursday to review preparations for the upcoming assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The team, which included Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, engaged in extensive deliberations with a spectrum of stakeholders, including representatives from national and state recognised political parties to solicit valuable insights and understand their concerns, thereby fostering their active involvement in the electoral process.
The ECI delegation held discussions with District Election Officers and Superintendents of Police (SPs) on electoral arrangements and security measures at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC), inquiring about the civil administration’s readiness and assessing the law and order situation.
They consulted with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Special Police Nodal Officer (SPNO), and the Central Forces Coordinator.
The team is scheduled to meet with Chief Secretary Atal Dulloo and Director General of Police R. R. Swain on Friday.
The visit will conclude in Jammu, where the ECI will review enforcement strategies and hold a press conference.
It may be noted that the Supreme Court has mandated that elections be held by September 30, 2024, and has called for the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir.

ECI team lauds admin for smooth conduct of LS polls in J&K
Asks them to continue work hard to achieve higher standards in upcoming Assembly polls
A high-level delegation from the Election Commission of India (ECI), which arrived in Kashmir today on a two-day visit, has praised the administration, police, district teams and other machinery for ensuring the smooth conduct of the recent Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir.
The delegation, led by Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar expressed satisfaction with the efforts made by the UT’s administrative and security apparatus in facilitating a peaceful and fair electoral process.
“The ECI team has commended the administration, police, and other stakeholders for their tireless efforts in conducting the elections in a free, fair, and transparent manner,” sources said.
However, sources said that the Election Commission of India (ECI) has cautioned against complacency in the preparations for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections.
“Continue to work hard to aim for new standards, beyond the benchmark set by the Parliamentary elections 2024,” sources added.
Sources said that ECI has also directed, “The administration and machinery must continue working diligently to ensure the integrity and credibility of the electoral process in the region.” This emphasis on vigilance highlights the commission’s commitment to a transparent and effective electoral process.
The delegation will review the election process and interact with various stakeholders during their two-day visit, which aims to further strengthen the democratic framework in Jammu and Kashmir.
