Srinagar, Oct 12: Dussehra was celebrated with great enthusiasm across the Kashmir Valley.
The main celebration took place at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar, where a towering 32-foot effigy of Ravana was set on fire, symbolizing the victory of Lord Rama over the demon king. This traditional ritual is an important aspect of Hindu culture, representing the triumph of good over evil.
The event attracted a diverse crowd, including members of various communities, particularly local Kashmiri Pandits. Despite being a minority in the valley, they have continued to celebrate Dussehra, showcasing their enduring spirit and commitment to their cultural roots.
Kashmiri Pandit resident expressed, “Celebrating Dussehra in the valley reminds us of our roots and shared traditions. It’s a moment of unity and hope for all of us.” Another community member, Rohit Tiko, added, “Dussehra in Kashmir holds special significance. It brings a sense of community and togetherness, something we deeply cherish.”
The festivities were graced by Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) president Dr Farooq Abdullah, who attended the event and extended his warm greetings to the people. He highlighted the importance of festivals like Dussehra in bringing communities together and fostering harmony.
The celebration concluded with a dazzling display of fireworks that lit up the Srinagar sky, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended. The vibrant atmosphere and shared joy reminded everyone of the significance of unity and togetherness, reinforcing the cultural fabric of the region amidst its diverse population.
