Jammu, Jan 16: The Director General of Police (DGP) for Jammu and Kashmir,  R.R. Swain, emphasized the direct connection between narcotics, terrorism, and its financial sustenance during the closing ceremony of the 12th Martyrs’ Memorial Cricket Tournament in Kathua. The DGP vowed to take strict action against narcotics dealers and assured an unprecedented escalation in the fight against drugs.
In his address, R.R. Swain paid tribute to the fallen heroes of the J&K Police, acknowledging the sacrifices made by over 1600 policemen in the fight against terrorism. He commended the organizing committee and sponsors for successfully conducting the tournament and expressed gratitude to the people of Kathua for their support.
The DGP lauded the initiative to organize the tournament in the name of martyrs and praised the institutionalization of the idea by former DGP Shri Kuldeep Khoda. He highlighted the commitment of the Jammu and Kashmir Police Pariwar in supporting the families of fallen heroes and promised continued assistance.
Speaking to the media, Shri R.R. Swain outlined comprehensive welfare schemes for the families of J&K Police martyrs, funded under the Police Contributory Fund. He emphasized that the majority of drugs in the region are supplied from across borders, linking this to terrorism and its financial sustenance. The DGP announced specific actions against narcotics dealers while pledging support for the victims.
The DGP urged cooperation from parents, families, and the media fraternity in the fight against the drug menace. He emphasized ongoing initiatives for the welfare of the families and wards of martyrs.
The Martyrs’ Memorial Cricket Tournament, organized by Jammu and Kashmir Police in collaboration with Shaheed Welfare Committee Kathua, saw 16 teams from different states participating, with Verma Cricket Club Ludhiana emerging as the champions. The tournament serves as a tribute to the sacrifices of the J&K Police and an inspiration for future generations.
The closing ceremony witnessed the distribution of prizes and mementoes by DGP R.R. Swain and other dignitaries, including DIG JSK Range Shakti Pathak, DC Kathua Rakesh Minhas, and SSP Kathua Shivdeep Singh Jamwal.
