Kargil, April 29: A major rescue operation is underway near the Kaksar Bridge on National Highway- after a heavy loader along with its driver from the Mechanical Development Department, Kargil, plunged into the Drass River
According to sources, the incident occurred in the morning hours, prompting an immediate and coordinated response from multiple emergency and volunteer organisations. The driver of the loader is currently missing and intensive search efforts are ongoing.
The operation is being jointly carried out by the Volunteers of Baseej-e-Imam IKMT, BHC&RC Volunteers—who have deployed two ambulance vehicles—Ladakh Police, the Union Territory Disaster Response Force (UTDRF), the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and volunteers. Rescue teams are braving challenging terrain and the strong currents of the Drass river in hopes of locating the missing driver. Authorities have not yet released the identity of the driver and no further injuries have been reported at this time. Local officials have commended the swift response of the rescue teams and appealed for public cooperation as the operation continues.
