Ganderbal, Jan 20: Braving the freezing weather conditions prevalent in Kashmir valley, the members of the Local Sonamarg Pony Association, union drivers, and local photographers came together early this morning to conduct a cleanliness drive across various areas of the picturesque hill station of Sonamarg.
The initiative aimed to emphasise the importance of maintaining cleanliness in Sonamarg, which attracts thousands of local, national and international visitors every year for its breathtaking views and serene environment. During the drive, participants cleared litter and appealed to shop vendors and tourists to actively cooperate in keeping the area clean and pristine
Speaking on the occasion, a local resident Sheikh Ishfaq highlighted that maintaining cleanliness in Sonamarg is not solely the responsibility of government departments but also locals as well. “It is also our duty to ensure Sonamarg remains neat and clean. Everyone has a role to play, including tourists, locals, and shop vendors,” he said.
The organisers reiterated the importance of avoiding littering and called on all stakeholders to preserve the natural beauty of Sonamarg. They stressed that a collective effort is crucial to ensure the region remains an appealing destination for visitors while safeguarding its ecological balance.
The cleanliness drive received widespread appreciation from locals and tourists, setting an example of community participation in protecting Sonamarg’s pristine environment.
