It’s J&K’s first state-of the art school with all modern facilities: Principal
Srinagar, April 26: In the bustling heart of Srinagar, within the premises of Government Higher Secondary School Kothibagh now known as Dream Institute, stands a space that feels quietly transformative. It is called the Dream School—and for the children who fill its classrooms each morning, it is more than a name. It is a promise fulfilled.
Built through the generosity of Fazail and Shabana, a couple from Kerala, the two-storey, state-of-the-art campus has redefined what a school can look and feel like. Constructed at a cost of nearly Rs 6 crore and inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on October 27, 2025, the Dream School blends modern infrastructure with a deeply human purpose.
Inside, the atmosphere is alive with possibility. Classrooms are bright and inviting, equipped with smart screens and specially designed seating. A robotics lab introduces children to innovation early, while well-trained teachers guide them with care and attention. Outside, open spaces echo with laughter as students engage in sports and play. But what truly sets the Dream School apart is its commitment to inclusion. Education here is entirely free.
Nearly 250 children—from Kindergarten to Class 8—study without any financial burden. The school also provides free meals, ensuring that no child’s learning is interrupted by need. “We have around 15 classrooms, most equipped with modern facilities,” said Sheikh Zahoor Ahmad, Coordinator of the Dream School. “Our aim is to remove barriers so that every child, regardless of background, has access to quality education.”
For the students, the difference is deeply felt. “I like coming to school every day now,” said a Class 7 student, her eyes lighting up. “We learn through smart boards, and the teachers explain things so clearly. I want to become a doctor.”
Another student, from Class 8, said the school has opened new doors for him. “We didn’t have these facilities before. Here, we even learn robotics. I want to become an engineer and build machines one day.” Their words, simple yet sincere, reflect the quiet impact of the initiative.
Principal Dr Sameena Wani said the school continues to grow with strong administrative support. “With the help of the Chief Education Officer and the Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, we are planning to add more facilities, including transport,” she said. “Right now, we have everything from smart classrooms to sports, ensuring holistic development for every child.” She said that Dream School is the first of its kind in the entire J&K with all modern facilities in place for the quality of teaching and learning.
What makes the Dream School remarkable is not just its infrastructure, but the journey behind it—a bridge of generosity stretching from Kerala to Kashmir. In a region often defined by its challenges, this school offers a different story—one of hope, dignity and opportunity. As children move through its corridors—learning, laughing, dreaming—the Dream School stands as a powerful reminder--when given the right environment, every child can imagine a future without limits. And here, in these classrooms, those futures are already taking shape.
