Shopian, Aug 06: Commissioner Secretary of the Hospitality and Protocol Department, Dr Rashmi Singh, who is also the Electoral Roll Observer for Shopian District, visited the district on Tuesday to review the ongoing 2nd Special Summary Revision (SSR) of Electoral Rolls.
During her visit, Dr Rashmi Singh chaired a meeting with the Electoral Registration Officers (EROs), Assistant Electoral Registration Officers (AEROs), and other concerned staff. District Election Officer Shopian, Faz Lul Haseeb, provided a comprehensive briefing on the various aspects of the ongoing Summary Revision, including new registrations, deletions, and modifications.
It was reported that more than 3,000 new registrations have been made during the ongoing SSR. The meeting also covered SVEEP activities, the organization of special camps, house-to-house verifications, rationalization of polling stations, EP Ratio, and other related matters.
Dr Rashmi Singh emphasized the need to strengthen outreach efforts to include all eligible voters in the roll through coordinated SVEEP and SSR activities. She remarked that enhancing electoral literacy and participation is a hallmark of a healthy democracy.
She commended the district administration for the historic voter turnout in the General Elections 2024, attributing it to the district’s efforts in promoting democratic participation. She urged all stakeholders to continue their efforts for a more inclusive and participatory electoral process. Dr. Singh also met some newly registered voters to gather feedback on the registration process.
Additionally, Dr Rashmi Singh met representatives of various political parties to ensure their participation and involvement and to address any concerns regarding the ongoing revision process. She advised them to appoint their Booth Level Agents for better coordination and urged them to proactively participate in the ongoing Special Summary Revision to ensure no eligible elector is left out.
Earlier in the day, Dr Rashmi Singh participated in a Plantation Drive under the “Ek Ped Shaheedo Ke Naam” initiative along with DC Shopian at the lawns of the Mini Secretariat.
