Srinagar, Apr 08: Chairperson of Jammu & Kashmir Waqf Board, Dr Syed Darakhshan Andrabi on Monday called for promoting Sufi ideology.
“The spirit of inclusivity and spirituality is our strength and we need to propagate this Sufi ideology. The teachings of our spiritual leaders and Walis and Rishis need to be disseminated to the youth,” she said while chairing a conference of Imams and Khateebs here.
According to a Waqf statement issued here, all Imams and Khateebs of the board and its members including Syed Mohammed Hussain participated in the conference.
Eid-al-Fitr arrangements were reviewed in the meeting and a deliberation on the propagation of the Sufi ideology took place. All religious preachers expressed their views on the responsibility of Imams and Khateebs on social awakening related to the hazards of drug abuse, and the importance of peace and harmony in the society.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Andrabi said it was the responsibility of the preachers to pass on messages related to moral values and social values to the new generation.
Dr Darakhshan said this was the age of the revival of the Sufi thought in J&K and religious preachers have a bigger role to play.
Extending Eid greetings to the religious preachers, Dr Andrabi wished them all the best for Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in their respective areas.
