Directed by Amit Ravindernath Sharma, “Maidaan” pays homage to the legendary Syed Abdul Rahim, the mastermind behind India’s football heyday. Set against the backdrop of cricket’s dominance in the nation’s sports scene, the film, led by the talented Ajay Devgan portraying Rahim, sheds light on a forgotten era, showcasing India’s prowess as a football powerhouse in Asia.
One of the film’s highlights is its captivating sports action sequences, complemented by an enthralling background score by the legendary A.R. Rahman. Russian cinematographer Andrey Valantsov’s skillful camera work immerses viewers into the intensity of football matches, capturing every moment of sweat, blood, and triumph on the field.
Amit Ravindernath Sharma’s meticulous research shines through as the film explores the contributions of key players like Jarnail Singh, Peter Thangaraj, Fortunato Franco, and Arun Ghosh. Rahim’s tactical genius, turning defenders into strikers, and the dedication of injured players like Thangaraj, add depth and authenticity to the narrative.
