Srinagar, Dec 05: Delhi Public School Srinagar has secured the Inter-DPS Football National Championship 2023 held at Delhi Public School Nerul, Navi Mumbai from December 3rd to 5th, 2023. The win marks a major milestone in the sporting annals of the region as it represents the first time, a valley-based school has won such a prestigious and gruelling tournament spanning over several zones and levels.

In the finals held at DPS Nerul on 5th December DPS Srinagar defeated DPS Vasant Kunj 4-2 in penalties, after both teams were locked 1-1 at the final whistle.  Siyam Ishtiyaq was declared the player of the tournament for scoring 11 goals. Over 130 DPS schools from various parts of the country engaged in intense competition during the initial zonal rounds. The top-performing 20 teams that emerged victorious in these rounds earned a coveted spot in the Nationals.

Congratulating the football team, the Principal Shafaq Afshan said, “To win such a tournament that spanned the entire length and breadth of the country is a feat worthy of the highest praise. Not only does it represent a moment of crowning glory for the school, but also the entire region as it places the UT at the center of sporting excellence in the school-level football arena.

Congratulations to the team and its coach – Mudasir.” Chairman Vijay Dhar also congratulated the team, remarking “When DPS Srinagar was established, the goal of holistic excellence seemed a bridge too far for many. But, our faith in the talent of our students, and indeed the region has never wavered. The win is not just a mere sporting win, but a testament that given the right environment, youth from the valley can compete and outscore at every level. Bravo, DPS Football Team!”
