Srinagar, Nov 09: Three students of DPS Srinagar have made the school proud by securing their place on the honours board in various sporting events.
Saira Zahoor has won the Gold Medal in the Senior Category in the J&K UT Level Thang Ta Championship 2022. The championship was held at Multipurpose Indoor Sports Complex, Srinagar from the 28th to the 30th of October. Besides, she also won the Champion of Championships by defeating Arjumand Majeed from Khelo India Center Tral. The gold medallists from all 10 weight categories that constitute the Senior Category compete for the title. The performance earned her a spot at the Senior National Championship which is going to be held in Kanyakumari in February next year.
Similarly, Mysha Tariq of DPS Srinagar won the silver medal in the 30 KG sub-junior category at the Khelo India Wushu Women’s league (North Zone) held at SKICC Srinagar. 700 participants from 8 States and UTs participated in the competition held from 4th to 7th November.
In another development, Azhad Arshad of DPS Srinagar has been selected to represent the UT for the Cooch Behar Trophy. The Cooch Behar Trophy, run by the Board of Control for Cricket in India, is India’s national four-day cricket tournament for under-19 players. It has been held annually since the 1945–46 season. Arshad impressed the selectors with his stellar stroke play and silken batting in the trial matches held by Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association.
Commenting on the success of the students, Principal Shafaq Afshan said, ““Our students have established a proud legacy of excellence at diverse sports in the region, and representing it at national and international fora. Congratulations and best wishes for the future to the budding stars” Chairman Vijay Dhar said, “The region is a powerhouse of dynamic talent and the school has been envisioned as a cradle of this talent. We are delighted our efforts are paying off. Congratulations to the winners and the selectee.”
