Srinagar, Aug 22: Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) on Tuesday lashed out at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) for its “deceptive and deceitful” role in “backstabbing” the interests of the people of Jammu and Kashmir in general and the valley in particular during its coalition with the BJP between 2015 and 2018, first under the chief ministership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and then Mehbooba Mufti.
“But for the BJP’s huge snub and midway divorce by withdrawing the support to the PDP-led government in 2018, the former chief minister would have gone the whole hog to kill young Kashmiri boys under the garb of the so-called drive against stone pelters and then mock at them by saying ‘Kya Bache Toffee Lene Gaye Thay’,” DPAP Central Kashmir President Peer Bilal said while interacting with the party workers.
Peer Bilal, while reacting to Mehbooba Mufti’s statement against the DPAP Chairman, recalled: “how desperately she hobnobbed with the BJP to form the alliance by first pretending to be not interested in the government after the death of her father”.
“There are strong doubts about the PDP having created a situation for the BJP to quit the government in 2018 as per a well-crafted plan in New Delhi to pave the way for repealing Article 370 and 35A,” he said, adding that if reports are to be believed Mehbooba Mufi was in the know of the developments to follow, which is why the PDP had rejected NC offer on the government formation from day one.
Peer Bilal said the people of Kashmir know about the “creators” of the PDP in 1999 when Lal Krishan Advani was the Deputy Prime Minister incharge of Home under the premiership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. “So it doesn’t augur well for the leaders to question the credibility of Ghulam Nabi Azad, as they owe emergence of their re-existence to Nagpur,” he said, hoping Mehbooba Mufti to measure her words before saying lest the “dubious role of the PDP is exposed”.
The DPAP leader said the people of Jammu & Kashmir were well aware of the “political opportunism” of the PDP leadership and know about their “dubious role” in different avatars. He said the remarks of Mehbooba Mufti about Ghulam Nabi Azad were like “pot calling the kettle black”.
Peer termed it most ridiculous and surprising to equate the views of a nationally-acclaimed secular leader like Ghulam Nabi Azad with those of the BJP. “Before raising a finger against towering secular leaders like Ghulam Nabi Azad, the PDP leadership should peep into its historical political blunders,” he said, adding, “Had not Mufti Sahab and Mehbooba Mufti provided a breathing space to the BJP in Kashmir by forging an alliance, the situation would have been quite different than today.”
