DPAP leader calls for protecting wildlife in Dachigam Sanctuary amid wildfires

Srinagar, Mar 03: In light of recent wildfires affecting the Dachigam Wildlife Sanctuary, senior leader of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP), Peer Bilal has sought immediate government intervention to protect the wildlife habitat in the area. The wildfires, particularly in the Sharasbal, Mahdev, Khrew, and Tral ranges, have raised significant concerns over the survival of the local wildlife.
On the occasion of World Wildlife Day, Peer Bilal underscored the sanctuary’s critical role as a habitat for the endangered Hangul (Kashmir Stag) and a diverse range of Himalayan wildlife, including musk deer, leopards, Himalayan black bears, and over 150 bird species. He said, “The Dachigam National Park is an essential ecosystem that must be preserved, and immediate action is required to mitigate the damage caused by the wildfires.”
To address the urgent situation, the DPAP leader proposed a comprehensive plan of action that includes:
– Emergency Food Supplies: Ensuring that food resources are provided for affected wildlife, especially during the harsh winter months when food scarcity is a concern. – Veterinary Care: Facilitating medical assistance for injured animals to ensure their health and well-being.
– Habitat Restoration: Initiating programs aimed at restoring the damaged habitats and ecosystems within the sanctuary.
Peer Bilal remarked, “By taking these steps, the government can help mitigate the impact of the wildfires on Dachigam’s wildlife and ensure the long-term conservation of this vital sanctuary.” He urged authorities to prioritize the protection of wildlife and the preservation of their natural habitats amid growing environmental challenges.
