Budgam, Dec 30: The district administration of Budgam is going to conduct a winter tourism festival at the famous tourist destination Doodhpathri in this central Kashmir district. The move is aimed at giving a boost to winter tourism.
Duties have been assigned to concerned officials from various departments so that the Doodhpathri will remain open for tourists and local visitors during this winter season, an official from the district administration told Rising Kashmir.
He said that for the preparations for conducting the winter tourism festival at Doodhpathri have started for which All-Terrain Vehicles and snowmobile services are being pressed into service.
“The other facilities will also be made available for tourists as well as local visitors, which include skiing facilities, tub rides, and sledding,” the official said, adding that this will also generate employment for local people of the area.
He said facilities will be also ensured for those who want to stay there during the night(s). Guest houses, huts, and homestays will be used for this purpose.
Apart from Gulmarg which is a world-famous winter tourist spot, the administration is all set to make other famous destinations of Kashmir open for winter. Sonamarg in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district has also been opened for winter.
Regarding Doodpathri, the official said there will be proper snow clearance of the road from Raiyar to Shaliganga, and regular water and electricity supply has also been ensured. “Proper support will be provided to the ponnywallas and vehicles that will ply in the frozen areas,” he said.
