Jammu, Mar 17: Chairman of Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) Ghulam Nabi Azad on Sunday urged the voters to transcend religious affiliations and prioritize merit, policies and track records when casting their votes.
Addressing a public meeting in Jammu East, Azad emphasized the importance of unity and inclusivity in the electoral process, saying that candidates should be evaluated based on their ability to serve the people and uphold democratic values.
“We must vote for candidates who can raise our voice in Parliament, irrespective of religious considerations. Many MPs remain silent, but my candidate will truly represent you and speak up for your concerns,” Azad said, highlighting his commitment to representing the people’s interests.
He added, “Article 35A was initially introduced by Maharaja Hari Singh to protect our land and jobs through state subject laws. If we come into power, my government will bring a law to protect land and jobs, ensuring the protection of our rights and resources.”
The DPAP chief promised significant developments, including the creation of more districts, schools, hospitals, and roads. “In two and a half years, I sanctioned districts, roads, hospitals which no government could provide. My mission is solely dedicated to achieving development at a large scale. The other parties have exploited the people while we remain committed solely to development. They have divided people along regional and religious lines with fake slogans that have now been exposed. My slogan is ‘Kaam Bolta Hai’. It was me who fought for statehood in Parliament, pressuring the government to promise the return of statehood,” he said.
Expressing concern over issues like electricity and power shortages, Azad vowed to work tirelessly to ensure reliable electricity infrastructure in every region, regardless of challenges.
Highlighting Jammu’s rich heritage of secularism and unity, the former chief minister urged collective efforts to uplift the region, prioritizing progress and peace. “Jammu has been renowned for its social cohesion and unity for many years. It is imperative that we preserve these values for the promotion of peace and progress,” he emphasized.
Meanwhile, Er Nazir Yatoo, the General Secretary for the Kashmir Province of DPAP, in a statement urged the voters to carefully examine the track record of leaders before casting their votes. He urged voters to be vigilant and discerning in their evaluation of candidates, especially those who have held power in the past.
