The official said that the elderly woman reported to the outpatient department (OPD) two years ago with symptoms of a lump in her left breast.
“The same patient returned to OPD with a large breast lesion, many skin ulcerations, and fumigation. She was assessed, and a phyllodes tumour in her left breast was confirmed,” he stated.
The patient was successfully operated on, and the tumour, which weighed roughly 2 kilos, was removed (mastectomy).
The surgery was performed by a surgical team comprising Dr Arshad Ahmad Baba, a consultant surgeon; Dr Javaid Ahmad Bhat, a surgeon Specialist; Ali Muhammad, Mohd Iqbal, Mohammad Amin, and Gull Muhammad.
Dr Ruksana Hamid and Javaid Ahmad Latoo led the anesthesia team.
Dr. Nisar Ahmad Khanday, Medical Superintendent SDH Bijbehara, congratulated the doctors on a successful surgery.
“The doctors at this facility are deserving of the recognition. Nevertheless, the patient is doing well and has been discharged. Surgeries like this being performed in a nearby hospital is a feat in J&K’s health prospects,” he said, adding that the surgery was performed under his supervision.
The patient was transfused with two units of blood arranged at the hospital, besides under the golden card beneficiary she underwent free-of-cost surgery.
