Dr. Showkat Ahmad Ahanger, the District Sheep Husbandry Officer in Baramulla, has been honored with the prestigious Award of Excellence by the District Administration Baramulla during the 75th Republic Day celebrations.

This recognition is a testament to Dr. Ahanger’s unwavering commitment to enhancing the livelihoods of sheep farmers and encouraging educated youth to embrace sheep farming as a profession.

Dr. Ahanger’s initiatives have focused on promoting sustainable farming practices, implementing disease control measures, providing doorstep veterinary healthcare services, ensuring access to quality breeding stock, and enhancing veterinary infrastructure in the district.

These efforts have resulted in a significant upturn in sheep production, productivity, and profitability within the sheep farming enterprise.

One of his notable contributions has been the promotion of skill development programs, organizing exposure tours, facilitating farmer-scientist interactions, promoting value addition and processing, and establishing marketing channels for sheep farmers.

These initiatives align with the vision of Viksit Bharat and the goal of doubling farmers’ income, as envisioned by the Hon’ble Prime Minister.

The Award of Excellence not only recognizes Dr. Showkat Ahmad Ahanger’s individual achievements but also acknowledges the collective dedication and hard work of the entire Sheep Husbandry Department in Baramulla.

This public acknowledgment serves as a motivating factor for Dr. Ahanger and his team to persist in their exemplary work, making significant contributions to the development of the sheep farming sector in the district.

Under Dr. Ahanger’s continued leadership, the Sheep Husbandry Department is poised to reach new heights, bringing prosperity and progress to district Baramulla.

His exemplary initiatives serve as a model for sustainable and impactful agricultural practices, showcasing the potential for positive transformation within the farming community.
