Baramulla, Dec 05: In a riveting two-day spectacle of athleticism and skill, the 4th District Baramulla Taekwondo Championships 2023-24 unfolded at the JKSC New Indoor Stadium, Khwajabagh, Baramulla. Organized by the District Baramulla Taekwondo Association under the aegis of the J&K Taekwondo Association (Regd.), the event showcased the combat prowess of participants from various zones, academies, and schools across the Baramulla District.
Gold medalists from this fiercely contested championship have earned the prestigious opportunity to compete in the upcoming UT Championship-2023, raising the stakes for all competitors.
The first day of the event, marked by a breathtaking display of combative skills, saw Master Atul Pangotra, a 2× Commonwealth Medalist, grace the occasion as the Chief Guest. The presence of such a distinguished personality added an extra layer of excitement to an already intense competition.
The meticulously planned event was designed and proposed by the technical committee of the Baramulla Taekwondo Association, led by Adv Neelofar Masood, the President of the association. Mumtaz Ahmad served as the Organising Secretary, with Mohsin Ali, Abid Ayoub, and Anwar Ah officiating as tournament referee officials, ensuring fair play and adherence to the rules.
Over 100 players from various schools, clubs, and academies participated in the championship, showcasing their mettle and contributing to the electrifying atmosphere. The enthusiasm among the young participants was described as nothing short of phenomenal.
The closing ceremony witnessed Iqbal Ah Akhoon, Secretary of DLSA, as the Chief Guest, and Mr. Mohammad Ibrahim Wani, Manager of J&K Bank Azad Gunj Branch, as the Guest of Honor. Iqbal Akhoon commended the medalists and expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Baramulla Taekwondo Association in organizing the event.
The closing note, delivered by Adv Neelofar Masood, emphasized the association’s commitment to promoting a healthy lifestyle, with the slogan “Say No To Drugs” and “Yes to Taekwondo.” She assured full support to all medalists for the UT Championships and lauded the efforts of Secretary Sports Council Ms. Nuzhal Gul in shaping the new sports era in J&K. The event not only showcased athletic excellence but also advocated for important societal values.
