Jammu, June 11: Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, Director Sericulture J&K, on Tuesday chaired a major review meeting at the Directorate of Sericulture Development Department, B.C Road, Jammu. The meeting aimed to assess the progress of Silk Cocoon Production, various initiatives and set future targets to develop the sericulture sector in Jammu and Kashmir.
During the meeting the Director reviewed the ongoing projects under SILK SAMAGRA-I & II, assessing both physical and financial progress. Detailed discussions were held on the utilization certificates (UCs) and the beneficiary lists to ensure transparency and accountability in the implementation of these schemes.
He further evaluated the current status of various activities and components under the HADP for the financial year 2023-24. The meeting also focused on developing a comprehensive action plan for 2024-25 to ensure the continued growth and development of sericulture in the region. The progress of silkworm seed production across different units was also reviewed wherein the Director emphasized the importance of achieving the set targets and maintaining high standards in breeding operations to enhance the quality and quantity of silk production.
The Director also assessed the procurement process of P1 seed cocoons and the timely payments made to farmers. He stressed the need for prompt and fair compensation to encourage farmers’ participation and sustain their livelihood.
The meeting also focused on setting realistic yet ambitious cocoon crop production targets for the year 2024-25. Discussions included strategies to improve marketing efforts and ensure better market access for the farmers’ produce.
During the meeting, he emphasized the importance of timely expenditure and the submission of utilization certificates. Besides, urged all officers to maintain close coordination with works executing agencies to ensure efficient project implementation. Furthermore, he highlighted that the Monthly Progress Reports (MPR) must be submitted to the Directorate in the first week of every month. Bhat warned that any offices failing to comply with these directives would face strict actions.
The Director, Sericulture J&K also exhorted upon the officers and the employees of the department to ensure transparency, accountability, and efficiency. While sharing his insights he laid stress to focus on timely execution and thorough monitoring, the department strives to achieve its objectives and support the sericulture sector’s growth in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting concluded with a call for dedicated efforts from all officers and staff to uphold the highest standards of performance and contribute to the department’s mission of promoting sericulture development in the region.
