Director Agri Jammu inaugurates training programme on organic farming

Jammu, Aug 10: The Directorate of Agriculture Jammu and Regional Council PGS-India Jammu Divisional Seed Certification Officer, organized a one day training programme on organic farming on Saturday at Kissan Bhawan, Talab Tillo Jammu.
The programme was inaugurated by Director Agriculture Jammu, S. Arvinder Singh Reen.
The training, part of the Alternate Agriculture System for Sustainability project under the Holistic Agriculture Development Programme (HADP) 2024-25, aimed to educate extension officers, field functionaries, and farmer trainers on the latest advancements and techniques in organic farming.
The Director underscored the importance of organic farming in enhancing the quality of food for consumer health and boosting farmers’ income.
A.S Reen highlighted the significance of organic farming in enhancing the nation’s food quality and urged participants to focus on results-oriented approaches in their work.
He also detailed the registration of 215 organic clusters on the PGS-India portal, with 115 under PKVY and 100 under HADP. These clusters will undergo a three-year certification process, culminating in PGS certification and the organic logo for market sale. During this period, farmers will receive organic inputs and training from the Department of Agriculture, which will also support marketing and branding efforts to boost farmer incomes.
The technical sessions were led by experts including Dr. S.K. Singh and Dr. A.P. Rai, Professors at CONF – SKUAST (J), Dr. Manoj Kumar, Assistant Director RCONF Ghaziabad and Vivek Sahai, Senior Manager at Nature Bio Foods, Project Jammu.
The programme was attended by key officials such as Joint Director Agriculture (Extension), Satish Sharma, Deputy Director (Trainings), Alok Pandotra, DSCO, Prem Singh and SMS-RL, Darmesh Vaid, among others.
