Mendhar, May 17: Senior Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) leader and party’s president for Pir Panjal Zone Javed Rana on Wednesday said J&K has been passing through “tough times” post Article 370 abrogation, especially due to the absence of a democratically elected government.
“Today, there is a dire need for unity among the people in Pir Panjal region besides the need for the restoration of trust and confidence of the people in civil and defence administration,” he said.
According to a statement, Rana was speaking to the media persons during his visit to Bhata Durian where he paid tribute to martyred soldiers and a civilian who lost their lives during the post-Article 370 abrogation period.
“Today, there is a need for people-friendly governance and appealed to the military, police and civil authorities for restoring the confidence and trust of the people that seems to have been shattered in the region especially due to harassment met to them during the recent days,” he said.
Regarding the death of a civilian, the senior NC leader said the matter needs to be probed thoroughly to ascertain whether it is really a suicide or not. “If it is a suicide what are the reasons that led to suicide? Let’s wait for the inquiry report and see what comes to the fore in it,” he said.
He assured the victim’s family that he will also meet the Lt Governor and the GoC of the Army in this regard and apprise them about the “dire need for unity and restoring people’s confidence so that the battle against Pakistan which is violating the LoC through the infiltration of terrorists, etc so that this fight can be taken to a logical conclusion”.
Meanwhile, Rana lauded the Army for being people-friendly, saying the Army under GoC has been always people-friendly and has worked for their welfare.
