Baramulla, July 14: Ajaz Ahmad Bhat, IAS, Director, Sericulture Jammu and Kashmir, today conducted an extensive visit to the Basic Seed Station (BSS) Mirgund, Baramulla to assess the ongoing silkworm rearing activities and the pathological examination of mother moths, a critical process aimed at ensuring the production of high-quality Disease-Free Layings (DFLs).As per a statement issued here, this initiative is central to boosting cocoon yield and eradicating the possibility of disease outbreaks among silkworms in Kashmir Division.During the visit, the Director had a comprehensive inspection of various sections of the Station including the Mulberry Nurseries, Farms, and Seed Units. He interacted with the technical staff and field employees to have an in-depth assessment of the ground-level functioning of the station in order to ensure adoption of proactive measures to enhance efficiency, productivity, ecological sustainability and better hygienic conditions within the Station.Addressing the officers and staff, Bhat stressed on creating a coherent and collaborative work environment that can lead to sustainable sericulture growth in the region. He encouraged the staff to maintain the highest standards of discipline and dedication in order to meet the departmental targets under various schemes and programmes. In a firm message concerning departmental land and assets, the Director expressed serious apprehension over reports of land encroachments and the illegal cutting of mulberry plants – a crucial resource for sericulture. He categorically stated that such unlawful acts, if perpetrated by any individual, will be dealt with strictly under the law.Referring to a recent incident in the Poshnar Mulberry Nursery of District Shopian, Bhat informed that upon receiving complaints regarding damage to nursery assets, at least three departmental employees have been placed under suspension pending an inquiry into their conduct.
