Srinagar, Nov 29: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar Imtiyaz Hussain, Friday said a new scam tactic is being employed by cybercriminals, where they mislead people with terms like “digital arrest” to create fear and extract sensitive personal information.

Addressing to press here, Hussian said, “There is no such thing as a digital arrest. It is merely a ploy by fraudsters to exploit gullible individuals,” he stated, urging people not to share critical information such as Aadhaar numbers, PAN card details or bank account credentials with anyone claiming to be from an official organization.

With the increasing use of digital platforms, scammers have become more innovative in targeting unsuspecting individuals. The SSP’s advisory serves as a timely reminder for the community to remain cautious and alert to ensure their safety in the digital age.

SSP has issued a stern warning to the public about the rising menace of digital scams, particularly targeting senior citizens. Addressing concerns over fraudulent activities, Hussain stressed the importance of awareness and vigilance to safeguard individuals from falling prey to scammers and fraudsters.

The SSP underscored the need for collective efforts to educate families, especially elderly members, about these fraudulent schemes. “We all must do everything possible to educate our family members, particularly senior citizens, to avoid falling victim to such scams by staying aware,” Hussain remarked.

Authorities continue to encourage the public to report suspicious activities promptly to help prevent further incidents and protect vulnerable members of society, he added.
