Srinagar, May 17 : Eid-ul-Adha to Be Celebrated in J&K on May 27, Grand Mufti AnnouncesMufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi on Sunday evening announced that Eid-ul-Adha will be observed across Jammu and Kashmir on May 27, 2026.
According to an official communication issued from the office of the Grand Mufti, the crescent moon marking the beginning of Dhul Hijjah 1447 Hijri was sighted on the evening of May 17.
Consequently, the new Islamic month will commence from Monday, May 18, 2026, while Eid-ul-Adha will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27.
The announcement was made after consultations with Dr. Maulvi Umar Farooq and several prominent Islamic scholars representing different schools of thought across Jammu and Kashmir, aimed at ensuring clarity and avoiding confusion among the public regarding the observance of the festival.
In his message, the Grand Mufti urged people to uphold communal harmony, brotherhood, and the true religious spirit of Eid-ul-Adha while celebrating the occasion peacefully.Eid-ul-Adha, one of the most significant festivals in Islam, commemorates the spirit of sacrifice and devotion and is observed by Muslims worldwide with special prayers and charitable acts.
