Srinagar, Jun 07: The crescent marking the beginning of DhulHijjah, the last month of the Islamic calendar, has been sighted this Friday evening, as announced by Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi.
“The month of DhulHijjah 1445 A.H will commence tomorrow, June 8, 2024 (Saturday),” stated Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam. He further confirmed that Eid-ul-Adha will be observed on June 17, 2024.
Eid-ul-Adha, celebrated on the 10th day of DhulHijjah, commemorates the willingness of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) to sacrifice his beloved son Hazrat Ismail (AS) in the path of Almighty Allah to please the most exalted. According to Islamic tradition, the Almighty, in His mercy, spared Hazrat Ismail (AS) and provided a lamb to be sacrificed instead.
To honor this historic event, Muslims worldwide engage in congregational prayers and the ritual sacrifice of animals. They also seek divine blessings for peace, progress, prosperity, and the welfare of the Muslim Ummah.
