Kulgam, Aug 10: As part of Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) Fortnight, Mission Director (MD) JJM, Dr G N Itoo, who is also Prabhari Officer to Panchayat Halqa D H Pora, on Thursday visited Damhal Hanjipora to witness the proceedings of a special Gram Sabha convened to certify the village as Har Ghar Jal. He declared that all the 603 households have now access to adequate and safe drinking water through taps within the premises.
The MD was accompanied by SDM, Bashir Ul Hassan, OSD, Executive Engineer, Jal Shakti and other Tehsil level officers. He also visited the Filtration Plant at D H Pora to check the water quality parameters in the presence of the community members to get assurance about the quality of water being supplied.
While addressing the special Gram Sabha, Dr Itoo urged the community to take part in the water management and operation and maintenance of the water supply systems like distribution systems, service reservoirs and filtration plants for which various capacity-building programs are being conducted all across the UT by the Jal Shakti Department.
The MD then visited Government Higher Secondary School D H Pora to interact with the school children who were participating in a debate and painting competition on water conservation and climate change being organized in collaboration with the Mission Directorate, Jal Jeevan Mission. He felicitated the best-performing students.
Dr Itoo said the current week is celebrated as a water festival during which impetus on inspection of ongoing JJM works is being given with a special focus on awareness of water conservation, water quality and partnering with the stakeholders for ensuring the sustainability and functionality of the water infrastructure being created under Jal Jeevan Mission.
DIPR, DIC Shopian organise nukkad natak, debate competition
Shopian, Aug 10: As part of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’ and under the banner of ‘Meri Maati, Mera Desh’ campaign, the District Information Centre (DIC) Shopian in collaboration with Cultural Unit Kashmir, Department of Information and Public Relations, J&K and Chief Education Office, Shopian on Thursday organized nukad natak and debate competition at Government Boys Higher Secondary School, Shopian.
The Chief Education Officer, Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmed was the Chief Guest and the District Information Officer (DIO) Shopian, Showkat Hussain Ganie was the Guest of Honour on the occasion.
Principal, Cultural Coordinator, Staff Members of the school, the Information department, and a large gathering of students attended the programme. A total of 10 students of the school spoke on the theme of ‘Ae Watan Tuje Salam’ and deliberated on various related aspects.
The artists from Tulkul Arts and Media Collective Theatre, Wahthoora Chadoora Budgam performed nukad natak and skit on national unity, brotherhood, drug addiction, developmental scenario and other issues. The dramatic performances of the artists enthralled the audience and were appreciated by the students.
Speaking on the occasion, the DIO thanked the School management, Cultural Unit, and DIPR for their support in organizing the programme. The principal of the school appreciated the initiative of the Information Department in organizing the event.
Later, the mementos, prizes and certificates were distributed among the participants and position holders of the debate competition.
