Srinagar, Mar 24: On the first Friday of the holy month of Ramadan devotees in large numbers visited Hazratbal shrine and Jamia Masjid to offer Friday congregational prayers.
As many as 18,000 Muslim worshippers offered Ramadan’s first Friday prayers at the grand mosque, Jama Masjid Nowhatta here in Srinagar.
The largest Friday congregational prayers were held at the Hazratbal shrine wherein thousands of devotees including men, women, and children, flocked since early Friday morning to perform the first Friday prayers of the holy month of Ramadan.
On this occasion, extensive preparations were made by the Waqf Board for the devotees at the Hazratbal shrine. Thousands of people attended the peaceful Friday prayers at the Jamia Mosque in Old City. In his Friday speech, the chief priest discussed the essence of fasting throughout Ramadan.
The police said the congregational prayers were held peacefully across the valley. “Friday afternoon prayers on the first Friday of Ramadan concluded peacefully in all Srinagar mosques,” police said.
Srinagar police, in a tweet, said, “Friday afternoon prayers on the first Friday of the holy month of Ramzan concluded peacefully in all the mosques of Srinagar. Below are pictures from Jamia Masjid, Nowhatta, and Hazratbal Dargah, wherein around 18,000 and 50,000 devotees attended Friday prayers, respectively.”
Reports of the first Ramadhan congregational prayers have been received from other mosques and shrines in the valley.
The majority of people in the Kashmir Valley began fasting on Thursday with the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan.
