Pulwama, March 29: Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, Dr Syed Darakshan Andrabi, on Wednesday visited South Kashmir’s Pulwama where she served as chief guest for Ramzaan-cum sufi conference.
The conference was organised by Awam Ki Awaz in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board at town hall Pulwama.
Talking to the media on the sidelines of the conference Andrabi said that religious scholars (Ulema) are dignified persons who, according to her, guide the nation to the right path.
“ Yesterday Ulemas held a meeting and holding the meeting was their right,” she said, adding that she carries respect for all religious scholars and clergy men.
“I believe that Ulema and Aimma guide people to the right path,” she said, adding that people are the best judge to decide what they have to do regarding the decision taken by the Ulema yesterday.
On Tuesday Grand Mufti of Jammu and Kashmir Nasir-ul-Islam, after a meeting with prominent scholars representing various thoughts and sects in Kashmir, had said that people will have to offer Qaza fasting of a day in case Eid moon is sighted on 20 April, 2023.
Prominent religious scholar of valley Rahmatullah Qasmi also reacted to the remark of Darakshan Andrabi about framing of Reut e Hilal Committee by Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board for moon sighting.
Qasmi suggested Andrabi to run administrative affairs of Waqf Board as efficiently as she can but asked her to leave religious issues for Ulema to decide.
“People again have been confused after they were told by Ulema for one day of fasting after Eid,” Andrabi said, adding that confusion has not subsided but prevails among people.
Andrabi said that she was asked by Qasmi Sahab to look after administrative affairs of Waqf.
“ I am looking after Waqf and with his blessings it will be taken to new heights,” She said.
She added that Waqf has no bearing with Reut-e-Hilal Committee.
“People follow the grand mufti and in Jammu one day of fasting was missed by them,” she said, adding that she doesn’t know what these people will do regarding the fasting day they missed.
She added that she said that there should be a Reut-e-Hilal Committee in Jammu and Kashmir because after the grand meeting by the Ulema, confusion still prevails among people.
“According to my knowledge one has to fast for 60 days to compensate for a single day of fasting missed during Ramadhan,” she said, adding that Ulema need to think about it and explain to people.
