Srinagar, June 16: A shocking act of desecration was reported on Sunday at the holy shrine of Hazrat Syed Baba Naseeb ud Deen Gazi in Eidgah, Srinagar. This incident is part of a disturbing series of attacks on religious sites in Kashmir since the theft of the holy relic of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) from Hazratbal.
Khwajah Farooq Renzushah, Chairman of Jamaat Aitqaad Hanafiya International, along with Mirwaiz Adil Noorani and the Imams of Hanafi Jamia Mosque Sangam, expressed profound shock and condemned the act. They visited the site to assess the damage and offered prayers for the revered Reshi of Kashmir. The front door of the sanctum sanctorum and shelves containing holy Qurans and Tasawuf Reshi literature were partially burned, with traces of kerosene and firewood found at the scene.
The president of the shrine, Jenab Khanday Sahib, revealed that the fire was discovered and miraculously controlled by a devotee, Zarifa. The local police were promptly informed, and the incident was reported through a local channel. Distinguished visitors documented the damage, including the half-burned door, on video.
Khwajah Farooq Renzushah highlighted the ongoing attacks on Sufi Hanafi shrines in Kashmir, dating back to the theft of holy relics in 1962. He cited multiple incidents where shrines were targeted, including the Dastageer shrine in Hanyar, Baba Hanif shrine in Budgam, Syed Gafoor shrine in Safa Kadal, and Shah Niyamat Ullah Qadri shrine, among others. He criticized the political regime for hushing up these matters to protect vote bank interests.
Renzushah also recalled the attack on him in 2012 at the Dastageer Sahib shrine and the destruction of several other religious sites over the years. Both he and Adil Noorani called for an immediate and thorough investigation to identify and apprehend the culprits behind these acts of desecration.
The leaders urged the people of Kashmir to protect their seven-century-old composite culture and remain vigilant against forces attempting to erase it. As Eid ul Azha approaches, they appealed for unity and vigilance to safeguard their religious heritage amidst rising radical ideologies.
