Srinagar, Sept 10: A delegation from the Ministry of Textiles, Government of India, led by Neelam Shami Rao, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles recently visited National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Srinagar on 8th September 2025, to review the infrastructure and activities of the institute.
According to a statement issued here, during the visit, the dignitaries toured the NIFT Srinagar campus, interacted with students and faculty members. An exhibition showcasing students’ innovative designs was also held, highlighting the unique blend of Kashmiri crafts with contemporary styles. Neelam Shami Rao praised NIFT Srinagar’s infrastructure, calling it one of the best campuses with excellent facilities in every sense. She further remarked that the laboratories, classrooms, and workshops are truly state-of-the-art, supported by highly competent faculty.
Secretary congratulated the NIFT faculties for nurturing conducive learning environment that makes NIFT one of the best places for students. During her visit, screening of film projects undertaken by NIFT faculty and students for various projects and activities were showcased to demonstrate diverse creative acumen of the students.
Rao also e-inaugurated Craft Village established at Kanihama from NIFT Srinagar. She directed District Administration Budgam and Department of Handlooms to take measures for strengthening the promotional activities towards attracting tourists to the craft village. She further stressed on promoting authentic handicrafts from the region in order to safeguard the livelihood of artisans and weavers.
This visit is a testament of Ministry of Textiles resolve towards unwavering support for NIFT to develop professional human resource for the textiles industry and also to promote the regions rich craft legacy. With its state-of-the-art infrastructure and innovative projects, NIFT Srinagar continues to play a vital role in shaping the future of fashion and design in the region.
