Ganderbal, Nov 16: Mega Engineering and Infrastructure (MEIL) have completed the connection of a 220-meter deep ventilation shaft to the Zojila Main Tunnel from the Gumri side of the Srinagar Leh highway.
Harpal Singh, the Project Manager, expressed immense pride, stating that this marks a crucial milestone for the EPC Contractor of the Zojila Road Tunnel project.
The ventilation shaft, located 220 meters below the highway, will streamline the excavation process for the remaining 3 kilometers of the tunnel, propelling the project forward.
With a total length of 13.5 kilometers and an average altitude of 11,000 feet, the Zojila Road Tunnel is a key infrastructure project that promises to enhance all-weather connectivity between Srinagar and Leh.
The ongoing progress on additional ventilation shafts and the combined excavation from East and West portals bring the completion of the tunnel closer, with an anticipated mid-2025 deadline for the remaining 5.75 kilometers.
