Srinagar, Apr 16: District Development Council (DDC) member from Harwan, Mohammad Shaban Chopan formally joined the Janata Dal (United) along with his supporters in the presence of JDU J&K president G M Shaheen, the party said on Wednesday.
The induction ceremony, held at the party headquarters, marked a significant step toward strengthening the party’s grassroots presence in the Kashmir Valley, the JDU said in a statement issued here.
Addressing the gathering, G M Shaheen said, “The people of Kashmir have immense faith in JDU’s vision and mission. Our doors are open to everyone who believes in inclusive development and the democratic process. Strengthening our cadre is not just our responsibility but our commitment to the betterment of the people of Kashmir.”
When asked about National Conference (NC) chief Dr Farooq Abdullah’s stance on Article 370, Shaheen referred to the former RAW chief A S Dulat’s book. “What Dulat wrote reflects the duality in Farooq Abdullah’s public and private responses during the 2019 abrogation of Article 370. While publicly calling it a betrayal, reports indicate that he maintained covert communication lines even when all networks were shut across the Valley. This raises questions on transparency and political intent,” he said.
Shaheen added, “A S Dulat, having had close ties with the Abdullah family and first-hand insight into Kashmir’s political atmosphere, monitored the developments of that time closely. The revelations in his book underscore the need for a more honest and people-centric approach in Kashmir’s political discourse.”
