Ganderbal, Nov 22: The Department of Convergent Journalism (DCJ), Central University of Kashmir (CUK) completed a comprehensive eight-day media tour for the students to Delhi and Chandigarh successfully. The tour provided an opportunity for the students to gain first-hand experience and insights into the workings of prominent national and international news media outlets in Delhi and Chandigarh.
During the tour, students visited organisations including BBC, NDTV, The Indian Express, Press Information Bureau (PIB), Press Trust of India ( PTI), Indira Gandhi National Open University’s (IGNOU) Gyan Darshan in Delhi and The Tribune, and Daily Post in Chandigarh.
In his congratulatory message, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. Ravindra Nath said “This experience allowed the students to witness the diverse facets of modern journalism, engaging with professionals and observing the intricate processes involved in news production, dissemination, and ethical considerations”. He said the initiative by the varsity reaffirms its commitment to providing holistic and practical education in journalism and media studies.
The VC underlined that the CUK remains dedicated to fostering an environment that nurtures critical thinking in research and professional excellence among its students.
Dean, School of Media Studies Prof Shahid Rasool expressed his delight at the enriching experience gained by the students. He highlighted the significance of such hands-on exposure in shaping the future journalists of our nation and commended the students for their enthusiasm. He expressed hope that with the active participation of students throughout the tour, at least some of them will get employment in national media outlets.
Head, DCJ Dr Arif Nazir said the students had an opportunity to visit newsrooms, production setups, and editorial processes which are instrumental in broadening their perspectives and understanding of the media industry.
Senior Asst Profs Dr John Babu Koyye and Dr Nookaraju Bendukurthi who coordinated the team of 26 students said, “DCJ media team received a warm welcome by media organisations and had an opportunity to engage in interactive sessions with Government Officials of PIB in National Media Centre and IGNOU and also eminent editors and media managers.”
Students also actively participated in discussions allowing them to delve deeper into the evolving landscape of media production houses.
