DC Kathua inaugurates Solid Waste Management Segregation unit at Barnoti

Kathua, Oct 02: Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Rahul Pandey on Sunday inaugurated Solid Management Waste Segregation unit established under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM) in Panchayat Kishanpur Kandi of Block Barnoti the other day.
While inaugurating the unit, the DC appreciated people of the Panchayat for taking lead in establishing the Solid Management Waste Segregation unit and becoming the first Panchayat in the district to adopt a waste management mechanism, which is a major step towards becoming model swachhta Panchayat.
The DC said, “It is a historic day for the people of Panchayat Kishanpur Kandi as the first solid waste management project in the district has been inaugurated here.” He also disclosed that similar Solid waste Management Segregation units will be replicated in other blocks across the district.
“The Swachhta Hi Sewa campaign initiated by the Government is a step towards maintaining Swachhtain  rural and urban  landscape with the efforts of all stakeholders”, the DC added.
The DC expounded about the importance of Solid Waste Management, Cleanliness and Sanitation. He briefed the public about the ways to keep the native places safe & clean by segregating Waste and ensuring its disposal.
The DC also appreciated the efforts of Block Officers, Officials and Sarpanch towards sensitizing people regarding waste segregation and household composting to reduce environmental impact of garbage dumping and creation of landfills.
The DC further informed that segregation shed would be used by Panchayat from where Solid waste will be collected by vendors and segregated to end the practice of its random dumping.
AC Panchayat Kathua, Danish Rasool Mir, BDO Barnoti, Sarpanch Panchayat Kishanpur Kandi and a large number of people were also present on the occasion.
